Setting Priorities

Guernsey's government is consistently trying to do too much and we can no longer afford it. We need to focus and prioritise and the central theme must be stabilising our declining economy, building business confidence and building public confidence, by actively controlling government activities and the spending which comes with it.

Creating proper and effective prioritisation means P&R must have ultimate control of policy development and spending, through urgent reform of government process. Addressing the crisis in housing has been a disaster - strategies, planners and endless debate and meetings don't build houses, builders do. Let's allow them to do that by getting government out of the way.

Economy

Without a growing and thriving economy, everything else we do cannot happen. It has to be a central priority. Completing and implementing agreed savings and tax reform policies, must be an urgent and central focus of the next states assembly, to rebuild confidence in our future. We simply cannot afford any more time dithering.

Government

We have to break away from the mindset that government solves problems like housing, when the reality is it creates them, by putting hurdles in the way of development, making it more risky, time consuming and expensive.
